BIOGRAPHY

Saša Rajšić is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice operates at the intersection of historical inquiry and imaginative reconstruction, intertwining modes of geographical documentation with recollections of childhood and negotiating the tension between collective trauma and individual processes of healing.

As an educator and researcher, Saša creates and coordinates integrated arts education initiatives that promote social justice through experiential learning. Currently at Hart House, University of Toronto, Saša has held previous roles at the Blackwood Gallery, University of Toronto Mississauga and Cambridge Art Galleries, and has attended OCAD University in Toronto, the Glasgow School of Art, the University of the Arts Helsinki and the University of Toronto. His work has been presented internationally in countries including Canada, England, Germany, Greece, Finland, Indonesia, Italy, Palestine, Scotland, Serbia, Spain and Sweden, and he has contributed to publications including disClosure: A Journal of Social Theory, Displaced Peoples - A collaborative Research Network of the Law and Society Association, Imaginations - Journal of Cross-Cultural Image Studies, M/C – A Journal of Media and Culture, SOAS University of London Blogs, University of Oxford Podcasts and The Disorder of Things. 

Originally from Yugoslavia, Saša and his family fled Croatia in 1993, lived as refugees in Serbia, and then immigrated to Canada in 2005. He is currently based in Toronto, the traditional territory of several Indigenous nations, including the Huron-Wendat, the Seneca and the Mississaugas of the Credit.
